Jenna Ortega plays the titular character in Netflix's hit show Wednesday but, years back, she admitted being obsessed with the popular TV series Stranger Things. However, there is a twist to the story.
Speaking to Josh Horowitz during an MTV interview to promote her latest movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Ortega addressed her relationship with co-star Winona Ryder and what it's like to work with her after being a fan of Stranger Things. The actress previously explained she was a big fan of the series, and revealed how far along she got. However, she did note she admired Ryder for more than her role as Joyce Byers in Stranger Things.

"I've been so bad about Stranger Things," Ortega started explaining when the conversation came up around the 14:30 mark. "Because obviously, it all came out. And it was a huge deal, it still is a huge deal. I love sci-fi, I love it when it could be done well. I did not make it past the first season," the Wednesday star revealed.
I did not make it past the first season.
"So it's been a couple of years because I'm bad with TV. The reason I say this is because I don't want to be questioned on it later and embarrass myself," she explained. "So let it be known that, whenever that first came out, that was the last."
As for her admiration of co-star Winona Ryder, Ortega continued that Ryder's career was impressive as a whole. "I obviously respect Winona because of that, but so much of what she did when she was younger as well.Heathers was a huge deal to me. Mermaids is incredible. Obviously, her stuff with Tim," which includes Beetlejuice and Edward Scissorhands. "I love Black Swan. I love Jim Jarmusch movies, Night on Earth is a comfort movie for me... Her Age of Innocence. I could go on. Bram Stoker's Dracula, she's insane. She's only been a part of incredible stuff and has incredible taste."

Wednesday lead actor Jenna Ortega addresses the chances of her and Winona Ryder reuniting on the hit Netflix series.
Wednesday and Stranger Things Are Netflix's Top Shows
Ortega made her preference for Stranger Things known in an interview with Talk Nerdy With Us in 2016, the same year the series premiered. She told the outlet, "I follow everyone's theories about the show, and I cannot get enough of it." Eventually, her schedule became too busy to keep up with all the adventures.
Jenna Ortega made her debut as Wednesday in 2022 and the series became Netflix's top show. With over 1.7 billion hours viewed and 252 million views, Wednesday Season 1 still tops the platform's most popular TV list in the English language. However, Stranger Things isn't far behind.
The series, set in the 1980s and following weird connections between the fictional city Hawkins and another dimension dubbed the "Upside Down," Stranger Things is one of Netflix's most popular original titles. Trailing just behind Wednesday, Stranger Things Season 4 has a total of 140.7 million views, and its third season also finds itself on the list in the ninth spot. In total, the two seasons have 235.5 million views, just behind Wednesday's numbers, without adding the first two seasons.
Alongside the historical romance drama series Bridgerton, the two series enjoy dedicated a lot of popularity and dedicated fandoms. With Stranger Things and Wednesday debuting Season 5 and Season 2, respectively, in 2025, the battle for number one will start again.
